Top Performing Primary Schools in Lewisham
We are delighted to announce that St Matthew Academy Primary School has been officially recognized as one of the top-performing primary schools in Lewisham, according to the latest data released by the Department for Education (DfE).
The recently published figures, which track academic performance for the 2024–2025 academic year, show that St Matthew Academy is leading the way in primary education. While the average for the Lewisham borough saw 68% of pupils meeting the expected standards in reading, writing, and mathematics, St Matthew Academy achieved an outstanding 83%.
Academic Excellence: Above and Beyond
This 83% success rate places us comfortably within the top tier of schools in the region. At St Matthew Academy, we believe that #EverySecondCounts. This mindset is reflected in these results, showing the consistent progress our pupils make from the moment they join our community.
To be counted as "meeting the expected standard," pupils must achieve a scaled score of 100 or above in both reading and maths, while also being judged by teachers as "working at the expected standard" or "greater depth" in writing. Our pupils' success across all three core subjects is a testament to their resilience and the high-quality teaching provided by our dedicated staff.
A Culture of Achievement
While we are incredibly proud of the statistics, these figures represent more than just numbers. They represent the hard work, curiosity, and "light" of our pupils. Our mission is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to #LetYourLightShine, and providing a world-class academic foundation is a vital part of that journey.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate this milestone, our focus remains on the future. We continue to innovate in the classroom - from our vibrant art workshops and global cultural studies to our vital life-skills training. We are committed to maintaining these high standards and ensuring St Matthew Academy remains a place of excellence for years to come.
For those who have recently applied for primary school places (the deadline for which was January 15, 2026), we look forward to welcoming a new cohort of bright minds to our school family this September.
